5 Lesson Learned-Don’t Derail!

This is the third post from Tim Irwin’s book Derailed. It’s a blogworthy book :) 2113925334_729ccfcd7a

Here are the 5 critical lessons learned from the the examples of derailed leaders profiled in the book.

  1. Character trumps competence
  2. Arrogance is the mother of all derailers
  3. Lack of self/other awareness is a common denominator of all derailments
  4. We are always who we are…especially under stress
  5. Derailment is not inevitable, but without attention to development, it is probable

You could write a whole book on each of these, but having some categories to evaluate is helpful for me. It’s also incredibly helpful for me to pay attention to these lessons at a relatively young age (that’s right, 31 is still young).

••••My question is… how are you doing and how are we (breadth of our organization) doing at keeping from being derailed? What can we do to build these lesson into our teams?****
