Texting is still #1

Wondering how to get in touch with students? My experience has been to try a text message first…then Facebook and barely ever use an email.

With that and the principle of Web 2.0 in mind. I got the go ahead to implement a 2 way text messaging service for the Greater Northwest Winter Conference. I’m still figuring out how it all works. But we signed up for Texthub at a very reasonable cost and we can send groups texts, receive texts and respond to individuals that have registered for the conference. So far customer service has been good!

We’ll do timely group message leading up to the event and we’re working in some texting interaction between the crowd and the MC’s and/or conference speakers. We’ll also do a few follow up texts after the conference too.

The whole point is to create a different experience for attendee…one where they have the opportunity to move from being passive listeners to active listeners.

  1. I totally agree with you on this. While I use email all the time, I’m definitely the exception. Texting is always number one for me. And Facebook works well, but I hate it. But the hating it part might be just me.
