If you haven’t discovered Seth yet, I recommend his blog. At first I thought his writing was too pie in the sky, sort of philosophical for me. But I think the problem was more with my laziness in thinking critically than his writing.
Anyway, I bought his book “Tribes” recently
. It’s chalk full of motivating, inspiring writing. Here are the my top 6 quotes so far.
- “You don’t have enough time to be both unhappy and mediocre. It’s not just pointless, it’s painful. Instead of wondering when your next vacation is, maybe you ought to set up a life you don’t need to escape from”
- “Defending mediocrity is exhausting”
- “The secret of leadership is simple: Do what you believe in. Paint a picture of the future. Go there. People will follow.”
- “The organizations of the future are filled with smart, fast, flexible people on a mission”
- “Settling is no fun. It’s a malignant habit, a slippery slope that takes you to mediocrity. Managers settle all the time.”
- “What people are afraid of isn’t failure. It’s blame. Criticism.”
P.S. Seth also has a new book called Linchpin that I’m itching to get my hands on.

OK Matt, I am subscribing to your blog. Part of my strategy to keep me from being a crotchety "what in tarnation is this new fangled gizmo" old person…
Thanks Carolyn! I can't imagine you ever being a crotchety old person. You will always be hipper than me!
